KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo College’s Emilio Romo was selected as the MIAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
A junior from Sylmar, Calif. (Sylmar), Romo scored both goals in Kalamazoo’s 2-1 win at MIAA preseason-favorite Hope College on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half tonight, Emilio Romo scored the game’s first goal in the 48th minute off a pass from Chad Ewing. Romo scored again in the 61st minute, putting a shot over the keeper’s head from outside the top of the box.
Romo now has three goals on the season and five in his career. This is his first career MIAA Player of the Week honor.
“Emilio has worked very diligently this past year and it is wonderful to see him reap the benefits of his hard work,” said Head Coach Lumumba Shabazz. “He has all the capability in the world and I’m hoping this convinces him that he can be the striker that we need.”
The Kalamazoo College men’s soccer team is 5-2-1 overall. The Hornets are back in action at home against Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
