CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN) – Voters in the Battle Creek Public School district barely passed a nearly $45 million bond proposal on Tuesday that district officials say will reimagine the middle school experience.
The proposal passed by less than 100 votes as there were 1,364 votes in favor and 1,273 against.
About $32.4 million would go toward funding Northwestern renovations and additions while about $12.4 million would go toward funding Springfield renovations.
The district says renovations would begin next summer with a grand reopening set for the Fall of 2024. Schools will remain open during the renovations.
Meanwhile, voters in the Marshall Public School district turned thumbs down to a $45.5 million, 30-year bond that would have built a new elementary school in Albion by an almost 2-1 margin. There were 3,294 no votes while 1,664 said yes.
Voters in the Pennfield School District approved a $30 million bonding question 1,027 to 726. The bonds will be used to upgrade and renovate the district’s five buildings.
The Tekonsha Community Schools Operating Millage Renewal Proposal passed 206 to 76.
