CALVIN TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Cass County deputies say that speed was the most likely cause of a single-vehicle accident that happened Wednesday night, May 11, around 8:15 p.m.
It happened in Calvin Township in Cass County near the intersection of Calvin Hill Street and Calvin Center Road.
Investigators say that the vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old South Bend resident, was traveling west on Calvin Hill Street when it lost control, left the roadway, then struck a power pole to the north. The vehicle then overturned while traveling across the roadway and truck a tree to the south.
The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The passenger of the vehicle was evaluated on scene by emergency medical personnel but refused further medical treatment.
Seat belts were worn by both the driver and passenger, with alcohol and drugs not appearing to be factors.
Assisting agencies include Penn Township Fire, Pride Care EMS, Edwardsburg EMS and the Michigan State Police
