JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Winter-like weather and road conditions are believed to be the cause of a single vehicle crash in Cass County on Sunday, November 13.
It happened around 1 a.m. on M-60 near Stone Lake Drive in Jefferson Township.
Sheriff’s deputies say that a 50-year-old South Bend resident was driving east on M-60 when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road and into the ditch. The victim was unable to exit the vehicle because of injuries sustained in the crash. Later on, vehicle was covered in snow making it difficult to be seen from the roadway.
But around 9:17 a.m., a passerby saw some movement near the ditch and went to check to see what it was. The passerby then located the crash victim and called first responders, who were able extract them from the vehicle and transport them to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Authorities believe at this point that drugs and alcohol are not factors in the crash, but also believe that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
