BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Students with the Calhoun Area Career Center Career and Technical Education Program are getting ready to showcase their hospitality skills on Wednesday, February 22.
Led by hospitality instructor Chef Steven Deal, the students will demonstrate what they’ve learned during a special winter showcase at the Calhoun Area Career Center in Battle Creek.
Organizers say the showcase will focus on health, diet, disease, and the importance those factors have within the hospitality industry in Michigan. They also went onto say for students participating in the Michigan ProStart program, gaining vital hands-on industry experience in skills such as culinary, food safety and knife cuts, business management, menu development and marketing are all critical components of the industry.
Additionally, the showcase will allow students to practice their skills with restaurant and hospitality professionals so they can prepare for the statewide competition taking place in Port Huron March 5 and 6, with the statewide first-place winners earning a spot at the National ProStart Invitational in Washington D.C.
The showcase in Battle Creek takes place on Wednesday, February 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Calhoun Area Career Center at 475 East Roosevelt Avenue in Battle Creek. The event is free and open to the public.
