KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education held its first meeting of the new school year last night, with a brand new trustee sworn in and new Superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade in attendance.
Maricela Alcala was sworn in to replace Tandy Moore, who resigned last month.
Alcala said Thursday night she agrees with other board members who say this is a time to take on two of the district’s biggest challenges, student performance and graduation rates.
Alcala is the CEO of Gryphon Place. She also sits on the Michigan Juvenile Justice Commission.
