KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Parents play a key role in the education of their children, and that’s one reason Kalamazoo Public Schools are urging them to start using their “Online Parental Portal.” It wasn’t that long that the only indication parents got of their child’s progress was a periodic report card. The district’s new phone app allows parents to get daily updates on all kinds of information. Information technology staff member Casey Sledge talked about what is there.
It also provides a link for notifications, and for parental forms, questions and responses. I.T. staff member Ian Haight says more than half of their parents have logged on so far this school year, but they would like to get that number up.
They say students also have limited access to their sites, and teachers report that students log in regularly to find out what teachers are saying about them. Parents who don’t have cell phones or home computers can use their child’s Chromebook to access the system. Parents can get help to sign up by contacting their local schools.
