KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Battle Creek woman has been arraigned on murder charges after a crash that caused the death of two people in August in Kalamazoo County’s Ross Township.
29-year-old Rachael Story is being charged with two counts each of Second Degree Murder, Reckless Driving Causing Death, and Operating With a High Blood Alcohol Content Causing Death With a Prior Conviction.
On August 19, 2023, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says Story’s vehicle was traveling southbound on North 40th St and collided with a vehicle traveling westbound on M-89. 89-year-old Nancy Lyons of Plainwell and 87-year-old Lawrence Hale of Midland were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Story was arrested Thursday and she was arraigned Friday in Kalamazoo County District Court. Her bond was set at $100,000.
