LAWTON, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – As the federal government has been shaken up by cuts and reforms from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, could such a house cleaning happen in Michigan?
Aric Nesbitt hopes so.
The Senate Minority Leader from Lawton, who is running for the Michigan Republican Party’s gubernatorial nomination in 2026, sent out a fundraising letter to supporters this week saying that “Michigan needs DOGE to put an end to this wasteful spending and bring real accountability to Lansing.”
As of now, Nesbitt and suburban Flint trucker Anthony Hudson have formally announced their intentions for the GOP nomination, while one-time state Attorney General Mike Cox has set up a campaign committee.
On the Democratic side, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, and shopping mall manager Marni Sawicki have filed paperwork for gubernatorial runs.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is running as an independent.
