BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Several pets died and a Battle Creek home suffered $150,000 damage, with another $80,000 in contents lost, in a Monday afternoon fire.
The Battle Creek Fire Department, with assistance from LifeCare Ambulance, was dispatched to 20 Everett Avenue for a structure fire shortly after 3:00 p.m. The Fire Department says Engine 5 arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor of the home. The crew forced entry into the home and located the fire on the first floor and it was quickly extinguished.
The entire fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes.
BCFD personnel, with the assistance of LifeCare, were able to resuscitate one of the family’s dogs. Several others perished.
The Fire Department says the cause of the fire at the single-family wood structure home appeared to be electrical in nature. There was heavy fire damage on the first floor and smoke damage throughout.
