KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Four soccer players and other student-athletes at Western Michigan University will be able to continue playing despite refusing a required COVID-19 vaccine at the school. A judge made the ruling Thursday to continue a temporary restraining order issued at the end of August.
The four players filed the lawsuit after they were prohibited from playing, citing religious reasons for not getting vaccinated. This week, 12 other student-athletes in various team sports joined the lawsuit for similar reasons.
WMU officials maintain that the vaccination requirement for their athletes is in the best interest of public health.
