KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Did you watch the Super Bowl? A team of young cyber-techs from Kalamazoo have won a bid to participate in the “Super Bowl” of pre-teen robotics.
The Zoobotix team from Linden Grove Middle school has qualified for the First Tech Challenge World Championships in Houston Texas in April. Only four of 400 teams from Michigan and 160 worldwide qualified for the event.
Kalamazoo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri says the 13 member team consists of students from Linden Grove and Hillside Middle Schools. The school district provides space for the activities but its organized and funded privately and by parents, and they are seeking donations from the community to cover their costs.
They need about $20,000 to pay for the trip to Texas, for the team, their coaches and their robot.
Anyone interested in helping can go to the KPS website, and click on RevTrak in their quick links.
The kids not only learn about engineering and electronics, but how to work together as a team to problem-solve, communicate and be builders.
