KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After being sidelined by the pandemic, Kalamazoo County is preparing to resume jury trials…but not without a caveat regarding expediency.
Court officials emphasize that there are over 1000 felony trials awaiting the courts, including about 80 of those involving life sentences, and since the most recent hold occurred, more cases have been added to the list.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Gettings said that the delays are frustrating to both sides, and the courts will do their best to alleviate the backlog as much as possible…but patience is paramount.
