PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services revised its guidance on masking wearing last week, Portage Public Schools and several other districts will lift their mask mandates beginning Monday to reflect the latest guidance.
The announcement last week means the state was no longer recommending universal masking in all K-12 schools.
In a letter to parents Thursday, Portage Public Schools Superintendent Mark Bielang said effective Monday students and staff will no longer be required to wear masks in any district school building.
Other districts lifting their mask requirements starting Monday include Holland Public Schools and Mattawan Consolidated School. Battle Creek Public Schools already lifted the district’s mask mandate last Friday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is still requiring masks on school buses
Kalamazoo Public Schools announced earlier this month the district intends to keep its mask mandate for the remainder of the school year.
