DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers managed to get a split with the Pittsburgh Pirates in a doubleheader Wednesday at Comerica Park. Detroit won the opener 3-2 but dropped the nightcap 7-2.
Willi Castro and Akil Baddoo scored on third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes’ two-out error during Detroit’s three-run fifth inning in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Tigers finished with just three hits, but they scored three unearned runs on their way to their second victory in nine games. Alex Lange (1-1) got two outs for the win, and Gregory Soto worked the ninth for his fourth save.
Alex Faedo made his Major League debut in game two, delivering five innings of two-run ball.
The Tigers open a four game series at Houston tonight. Tarik Skubal will start on the mound tonight for Detroit.
