KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County is beefing up security at the new Justice Center construction site following a few incidents.
The $100 million project is now behind schedule because of worker shortages and supply chain issues, and needs to be closed up before winter.
The delivery of doors and the cladding used to cover the outside of the building has been delayed.
That may be adding to the vulnerability of the site.
County Administrator Kevin Catlin says they have contacted the Sheriff’s office to arrange for additional security.
They are also exploring modifications to the interior of the structure to make room for an additional Circuit Court Judge, which was not in the original plans.
Catlin says they are making plans to open the structure next fall. They may have to extend their lease at the Crosstown Justice Facility until the building is finished.
They also have found a moving company that has experience relocating courts.
