KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Tuesday morning’s wintery weather caused a number of challenges for drivers in Kalamazoo County.
Law enforcement reported two separate crashes during the prime commuting hours with the first occurring around 7:30 a.m. in Portage.
It happened when two cars collided on West Milham Avenue overpass at US-131. Portage police attributed the incident to slick roads caused by the snowfall, especially since overpasses and bridges are known to ice over faster than main roads.
The second crash happening an hour later around 8:30 a.m. on southbound US-131 past the M-43 exit where a car went off the road before flipping over.
The incident blocked the left lane off for about 30 minutes.
Authorities say it’s unclear at this time whether or not road conditions were the root cause of the crash.
With the official winter driving season right around the corner, police are urging all motorists to remember to drive slow in ice and snow.
