KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Red Cross in Kalamazoo is set to lend a helping hand to those who continue to be without power due to the ice storm on Wednesday night, February 22.
On Thursday, February 23, at 5 p.m., the Red Cross is opening a 24-hour shelter at the Douglass Community Association at 1000 West Paterson Street in Kalamazoo.
According to a release from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the Red Cross 24-hour shelter will provide cots, food, and water.
Those needing to use the shelter are highly encouraged to bring their own bedding. At a minimum, they’ll need to bring necessary medication and toiletries along with things to occupy their children if they have them.
There are currently two day warming centers also in operation.
The River Church, hosted by Integrated Services of Kalamazoo at 517 Walbridge Street, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The Salvation Army, hosted by Kalamazoo Coalition for the Homeless, is open from 12 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Friday.
