KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Like it or hate it, work continues on MDOT’s project in Kalamazoo to widen I-94 to six lanes between Lovers Lane and Sprinkle Road, along with rebuilding the Portage Road Bridge.
The next step in the $87 million dollar project officials say will take place on Thursday, June 15 as crews will shift traffic onto the newly built westbound I-94 from Sprinkle Road to Lovers Lane.
This they say, will result in a single-lane closure on westbound I-94 at Sprinkle Road from 9 p.m. Thursday, June 15 to 6 a.m. Friday, June 16 as crews complete the traffic shift.
After the shift is complete, drivers can expect two lanes to be open in each direction as work continues on the expansion project, but should also be alert and drive with caution through work areas.
So far, contractors are anticipating the new Portage Road interchange and all lanes of I-94 between Sprinkle Road and Lovers Lane in Kalamazoo County to be open to traffic in early August.
