BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Battle Creek Fire Department says they had to respond to an apartment fire Sunday morning on South 22nd Street where a woman was trapped inside of her apartment and unable to get out.
Firefighters responded at approximately 9:15 a.m. They discovered the fire was coming from the kitchen area of the apartment. It was quickly extinguished and the unresponsive victim was rescued. CPR was performed on the victim, LifeCare Ambulance transported the victim to the hospital.
Additional searches were conducted in three other apartments. The Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector arrived on scene to investigate, however, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
The Battle Creek Police Department assisted in removing a tenant that would not leave her apartment.
Damages were estimated at about $40,000.
