KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Curling Club is facing a dilemma with the closure last week of Wings West in Texas Township and the upcoming closure of Wings Event Center in a few years.
The club is looking to build its own arena in Parchment on two-and-a-half acres of land that used to be the Parchment Paper Mill.
Club president Arlene Carter says they are now traveling out of the state to curl due to needing a different preparation of ice than is used for hockey and figure skating.
Carter says they signed a purchase agreement with the city of Parchment last month and have an eight-thousand-dollar grant from the Kalamazoo Brownfield Authority, but the cost of the building is estimated at four million dollars.
