LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Fiscal Year 2026 state budget is still waiting for Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s signature.
Lawmakers approved the roughly $80-billion spending package last week along with a one-week extension of the 2025 budget, which expires Wednesday.
The new budget includes one-billion-dollars for road repairs, ending state taxes on Social Security, tips, and overtime pay, and more money for public schools.
House Speaker Matt Hall, a Richland Republican, said he and Whitmer, a Democrat, were able to find plenty of common ground during the negotiations.
