PLAINWELL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Consumers Energy continues restoring power today following severe weather Wednesday that impacted nearly 125,000 homes and businesses statewide.
Consumers Energy has stationed a mobile unit at the Plainwell Meijer to bring supplies and reinforcements that speed up the critical work to restore power.
More than 50,000 customers have already been restored overnight as additional severe weather is expected this evening.
Consumers Energy crews worked through the night to restore electricity to more than 50,000 customers following a wave of severe weather that brought heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and flooding to Michigan.
As of 1:30 p.m. Thursday, 3,653 customers in Kalamazoo County were without power, with 4,050 out in Allegan County, 1,015 in Van Buren County, and 9,630 in Barry County.
Jean Kang, an officer in charge of restoration for Consumers Energy, thanked customers for their patience, emphasizing that the safety of both crews and the public remains the company’s primary focus as they continue to monitor the weather and deploy resources.
In anticipation of the incoming Thursday night storms, repair crews have been strategically staged to respond rapidly to new power disruptions. Consumers Energy urges motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads and advises residents to stay away from downed power lines, flooding, and broken tree branches.
