BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 38-year-old Battle Creek man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a 36-year-old woman on Saturday.
Police were called to the first block of South 24th Street just before 4 p.m. for a domestic assault and learned the man also allegedly chased family members with a pipe before barricading himself in the home with a child and the family dog.
The woman told officers she went to the home to check on her two children who were with their father, and reported her concerns about his drug use.
She says he grabbed her by her shoulders and her neck when she picked up one of their children, but she got away and went back to her vehicle when he was chasing her, his sister, and his mother with the pipe.
The pipe became lodged in a vehicle after he threw it.
Officers then obtained a search warrant and arrested him without any further trouble.
The child and the dog were not hurt.
The incident remains under investigation.
