PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage city council will pick their new city manager by the end of the week.
They held their second interviews with their three finalists Tuesday afternoon with two candidates from Michigan, Sarah Moyer Cole and Aaron Desentz, and one from Texas, Karen Dempsey-Horan.
The candidates were asked to present a plan to make non-motorized transportation safer in the city, and all three came prepared.
All three were then examined on a variety of issues, how would they handle disasters, disagreements with council members, criticism, ethics violations, struggling employees, labor unions, and cultural and race relations.
They all agreed that Portage would be a great place to work.
Vice Mayor Jim Pearson, who has been through several manager searches, and first timer Nicole Miller say it won’t be an easy decision.
Mayor Patricia Randall has set a special meeting for Friday at 9 a.m. at Portage City Hall to take a vote.
