KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – How secure is Kalamazoo County’s voting system?
County Clerk Meredith Place is inviting the public to come out and see for themselves, up close and personal, when they hold required accuracy tests Thursday.
Place says the annual tests are designed to make sure everything is working, and its done in public.
“This is a process that we do before every election to make sure that the equipment is reading appropriately the results of the paper ballot,” she says. “Voters and residents across the county can come down, they can see the testing in person, they can ask questions.”
Their session will begin at the clerk’s office downtown beginning at noon.
“Now the local clerks are also holding public accuracy tests throughout the day some are holding them at 9, some at 10, some also at noon.”
They use pre-marked ballots, some that are improperly marked and include overvotes to also make sure the equipment detects those mistakes.
Once testing is successfully completed, voting equipment is cleared, secured, and sealed until deployment for the November general eection.
