KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Today, June 15th, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, designated as such by the World Health Organization and recognized locally by a Kalamazoo County board resolution.
It was established to raise awareness about the abuse and neglect of older persons and the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes behind it.
Commissioner Dale DeLeeuw read the proclamation.
Board chair Jen Strebs says it’s an issue she deals with in her day job as a mental health worker.
To show support, everyone is asked to add a spash of purple to their outfit as they head out the door today.
