KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – One of the goals of Kalamazoo County’s next multi-million-dollar push to relieve the local housing crisis will be to focus more on economically challenged residents in Kalamazoo County,
Board chair Jen Strebs announced the recommendations come from the Housing Task Force at this week’s meeting.
Four-million-dollars from the “County Housing for All Millage” will be spent aiding developers to create multi-family housing, one-million-dollars will be used to incentivize construction of single-family homes and another million will be spent making repairs in older homes.
Deputy Housing Director Willa DiTaranto says they will have a little more to spend, and a little more time to allocate it.
If all goes as planned, the money will be spent across the county on local housing projects, leveraging tens of millions more from developers and private, state and federal agencies. It will create jobs that will be bid out to local tradesmen and builders, pumping money into the local economy.
County commissioners approved the spending plan Tuesday.
